Asustor (a subsidiary of Asus that focuses on network products) has introduced a new widget to provide faster Ethernet connectivity to your desktop or laptop. That’s not a sexy name, but in the right environment, the new Asustor AS-U2.5G adapter might be fast. This small device can balance your LAN with a much faster cable connection
As the name suggests, it is a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet controller. Most modern computers are equipped with one or two 1 Gigabit Ethernet ports (or GbE LAN ports, as they are often called). In terms of theoretical bandwidth, AS-U2.5G is 2.5 times faster.
There will also be some overhead losses. Without this, 2.5 gigabytes (Gb) is equal to 312.5 megabytes (MB), while 1 Gb is equal to 125 MB. In terms of real performance, the Asustor test shows read and write speeds of 283MB / s and 256MB / s, respectively.

The device itself is quite cheap – $ 35.99 on Amazon. It’s also easy to set up and use – it’s easy to connect to a USB 3.2 Gen1 type C connector (or type A with an adapter) and doesn’t require special software, works with a variety of operating systems and supports the standard Cat 5e cable.
