Google has removed about 20 Android os software from the Play Store after learning that they included a multi-stage spy ware product for monitoring and extracting a user’s very sensitive data like e-mail, texts, location information, marketing files etc.
Google could find these applications were sent out in a targeted fashion to around 100 cell phones. The malicious programs could screen and track record your phone calls and take photographs from your device’s camera. Also that they had the ability to screen the users location and fetch device information and data. These potentially damaging applications may possibly also get data from encrypted services in these devices like Viber, WhatsApp and Telegram
Google has dubbed this batch of harmful software as Lipizzan and stated that the programs contained referrals to Equus Technology, a cyber hands company.
These Lipizzan software operate in two phases. The first level is to send out the iphone app as a ‘cleaner’ or ‘backup’ iphone app through Google Play. The installed software would then weight these devices with another “license confirmation” level, which would validate the web host device for several abort criteria. From then on the iphone app would progress to the second level and root these devices to exfiltrate the device’s data onto a secure server handled by the builder.
The research workers at Google could actually take away the Lipizzan programs using Google Play Protect and positively stop all installs on new devices. Google Play Protect is an instrument developed by Google that regularly scans the Play Store for Malware and dangerous programs and warns of any security concerns.
